Seminar: state repression and the struggle for self-determination: strategies for resistance
The cases of Turkey & Kurds; Pakistan & Baloch; Spain & Basques; Sri Lanka & Tamils

Activists from different international solidarity campaigns will come together to discuss and share experiences about the impact of state repression on the various struggles for self-determination in which they are involved. The seminar will address common strategies for resisting repression and strengthening solidarity across nationalities in the common struggle for a fairer and more just world.
The focus of the discussions will be on both international and national circumstances which provide the support for state repression.
The seminar will also discuss the global situation within which individual states operate including the network of alliances with countries like the US and the role of the UN Security Council which underpins the current international order by suppressing and delegitimizing struggles for self- determination. Strategies and policies that provide ideological justification for repression will include – the global war on terror, national security, proscription and the foreign policies of powerful states.
