BTF and APPG-T hold Forum on the Genocide of Tamils
British Tamils Forum and the All Party Parliamentary Group for Tamils co-hosted a Forum on the Genocide of Tamils in the island of Sri Lanka at Portcullis House, Westminster, on the evening of Tuesday 8 October 2013.
The forum – which was attended by MPs, other UK politicians, researchers and activists – comprised a panel discussion, followed by a lively question and answer session, on the topic of genocide in Sri Lanka. It provided an opportunity to open a dialogue between individuals and organisations – both Tamil and non-Tamil – who are sympathetic to the plight of the Tamil people, but who have differing perspectives on the question of whether there is an ongoing genocide in Sri Lanka.
Although not all differences were resolved, attendees noted afterwards that an important first step had been taken, and that a number of interesting points had been raised that would merit further discussion. British Tamils Forum hopes that more such events will be arranged in future.
