"ETA has started the process to put its arms beyond use".
Today at 2pm the International Verification Comission has announced in a press conference that "ETA has started the process to put its arms beyond use". This is a historic announcement that helps the process for the resolution of the conflict move forward. It shows an absolute commitment to bring to an end the armed confrontation in the Basque Country. The Basque Country is moving forward to achieve a just and lasting peace scenario and all relevant stakeholders should be involved. The courage and commitment shown by the Abertzale Left all along this process must be addressed.
The last armed confrontation in Europe is on its way to be resolved and it needs of the involvement of the European institutions.
We urge Spanish government to change their absurd policy of opposition to this process. It is time to break with the securocrats and spoilers that are trying to blockade this process. It is impossible to think that such process can be developed without the involvement of the Spanish and the French states.
A peace process can not be build just by one side, it needs the involvement of everybody
The inhuman policy against Basque prisoners must end:
- Seriously ill prisoners should be released and all prisoners should be transfered to Basque prisons as a first step for an early release process.
- All politicians in jail, including Secretary General of Sortu Arnaldo Otegi, key on bringing the process to this scenario should be immediately release and political trials must end.
It is time for peace, dialogue among all parties should start.
